100 Days to Health - Day 23 | Strawberries

Week 4 –  Day 23 Strawberries

Tip for the Day

Strawberries have an anti-viral effect and help prevent heart disease and cancer due to their powerful antioxidant properties. Strawberries appear to block one of the most powerful cancer-forming substances, nitrosamines. They are also high in pectin, a water-soluble fibre that helps reduce cholesterol significantly.

People who eat strawberries regularly are three times less likely to get cancer than those those who don’t eat strawberries.

This week investigate if there is a local strawberry farm in your area and get picking some strawberries for those delicious shake recipes that are being emailed to you.

Blended shakes are a delicious and easy way to get reluctant fruit eaters to turn to fruit with relish. Remember that although the fruits are blended and served in a glass, these shakes are a food and should be sipped slowly.  If you have a glut of strawberries, rinse and freeze them.
