Week 5 – Day 31 Sugar Cravings

Tip for the Day

The most common signal our body sends us, other than for water is for sugar. Each cell needs glucose to function. Without glucose our brain and central nervous system cannot function, nor will your lungs and heart. The way your cells tell you that they need glucose is by sending a message to the brain. The brain interprets the signal by sending a message to the taste buds to crave sweet stuff.

The normal response to sugar cravings is to reach for a chocolate or biscuits, maybe tea or coffee with two sugars, or even an alcoholic beverage. This is when we need to remember Good Habit #1 Start with Raw and Good Habit #Eat One fruit Meal a day. These habits will ensure your body gets the right kind of glucose, and less of the refined sucrose that upsets your blood sugar and endocrine (hormonal) system.

The best way to find out what your body really needs, apart from what your taste buds are saying, is to go back to basics. Back to the beginning, to the ‘Garden of Eden, when there were no shops, no fast food outlets – just food growing from the land.

In that environment, if you craving sweet things, what would you reach for?

Recipe for the Day

Cashew Custard with acid fruit salad

Dice the following, 1 Pineapple, 3 apples, 3 naartjies/clementines, 3 Kiwi fruit, 2 pears and any berries of your choice

Combine & serve.  Top with cashew custard.

Cashew Custard

1-2 cups cashews

1 small pineapple

1 cup fresh orange or apple juice

Optional: Add 1 scoop Propeas from Aim to add extra nutrition

A little raw honey if you like

Blend all the ingredients together until a fine custard is formed. Serve as dip or custard with any acid or sub acid fruit (see food combining chart at back of Perfect Health (the book)
