Tip for the Day

Preservatives such as Sodium Benzoate, Sulphur Dioxide, Nitrates, Acetic Acid and Calcium Propionate provoke ill health.

Sodium Benzoate, used in margarines, juices and bottled sauces causes fetal damage, hyperactivity and asthma.

Sulphur Dioxide is found in dried fruit, beer, wine, sauces and sodas. This preservative is known to reduce levels of calcium in the body. Asthma and eczema are also very common allergies that result from consuming sulphur dioxide. It is the cheapest and therefore the most used preservatives, and can make your life miserable.

Sodium Nitrate and Nitrates found in all processed meats interfere with the distribution of oxygen around the body. They have also been known to combine with basic chemicals in our foods to damage the cell and can cause cancer.

The main ingredient of vinegar, Acetic Acid, which found in bottled sauces and pickled foods can cause problems in our Central Nervous System. This corrosive and toxic preservative also is known to cause kidney, digestive and liver problems.

Preservatives in breads, ranging from white to whole-wheat and rye, cause problems in your digestive system. In some severe cases, Calcium Propionate the most common preservative in bread, can bring on a migraine.

I know this is a lot of information… So when feeling overwhelmed, go back to what you have learnt so far on the 100 Days to Health. Listen to your body and take control of what you put into your body. Keep reading those labels and if you can’t avoid eating processed food, simply have raw foods first.

Recipe for the Day

Olive and Cashew Pate/spread

Liver spreads are frequently eaten on bread. As liver is the organ that deals with waste products and toxins, it is not the healthiest thing to eat. Liver is extremely high in cholesterol, fat and toxins accumulated as it filters toxins out in the body of all animals and should be avoided. Make this olive and cashew pate in place of liver spreads.

1 cup raw cashews

1 cup pitted black olives

Juice of 1 lemon

Blend ingredients together adding lemon or water to make a smooth spreadable paste.

Use as a dip or spread.
